I don’t think slam fires are a problem on properly maintained SKS Rifle Stocks rifles otherwise everyone would be selling springs for them.

I have the 4x, and have the same exact issue…. this is what it looks like right now… I have elevation knob all the way at the bottom, but i’m SOL :(

I’m guessing it’s a first generation. It says EOTech on the bottom as well as built July 1999. There is no adjustment for elevation that I can tell, possible adjustment for windage via sliding the reticle. It takes 2 N batteries and access to them requires an allen wrench. There are no other markings besides that and the serial number which is 787XX. Anyone know the model number and possibly an online source for a manual?
Thanks.

Way easier to tug a lever, dump the scope, and transition to your back up iron sights. There is no point in adding a BUIS if you cannot get it into action very quickly. That said I use the GG&G Trijicon ACOG mount, I like that single lever and these mounts are built plenty strong enough to handle major abuse. That BUIS will most likely be for show anyways. Most of the M16A4 users in Iraq don’t even opt to bolt them on. I guess I just don’t see the non-hypothetical advantage and would rather spend the coin on ammo. I have heard of more Matech’s damaged beyond repair in combat/training than I have ACOG’s. Come to think of it, I have not heard of an Trijicon ACOG failing in the field. Just my .02 and if someone can de-bunk it I may spend the $150 or whatnot to get me a throw-lever mount. There was a thread at the start of the war where there were photos of a Trijicon ACOG that was shot and saved a guys life. ACOGs get shot. Shot optics dont work. Military guys dont “choose” to not have BUIS… they often did not have them issued, especially at the start of the war because of budgetary reasons. Your line of thinking is a bad one IMO.

Make sure you take the entire bolt apart once and awhile and actually clean out the channel and check for rust. Assuming you do that and don’t regularly shoot corrosive ammo through it without totally cleaning it out… you’ll be fine.

Just re what can happen when you drop the bolt on any gun and have it pointed downrange or into the dirt.

I’ve installed murray’s pins…Seems like a good idea but still won’t prevent it from happening if the the bolt gets filled with rust.

IMO and experience no mod is necessary. Proper and regular maintenance is all that is required. It has been my experience that SKS`s that were recently packed in grease were the worst culprit for slam fires. Here is where a complete bolt disassembly can help along with a good soaking in gasoline or kerosene and a rubdown with good ol` Dawn dish soap. Then rinse thoroghly, wipe dry, and immediately apply some Break Free CLP or any other higher grade gun oil. Happy Shots

I’d seriously consider getting another one… bwall858/31/2010 1:42:57 PM I did some research on these prior to buying my TA33 Trijicon ACOG and, well, I went with the ACOG. I’ve heard a lot of what the one review says above. It’s close to being a great optic, but just falls short in a few areas that are pretty darn important. Tomac8/31/2010 7:43:36 PM Excellent concept w/flawed execution, IMHO. Battery life is very poor, tritium is far too dim (supposedly for NVG compatibility), fiber optic collector glows at night when using the battery, loved the daytime performance w/the chevron reticle. Brighten the tritium and replace the current battery w/an AA or CR123 and I’d seriously reconsider it. Tomac SageEBR8/31/2010 8:11:40 PM I’ve got one, and battery life is my biggest beef. The batteries in mine don’t even last 2 months if the sight is turned off . Actually finding the batteries is not hard as every walmart and drug store in the world carries this size of battery in their little specialized battery section. asicmsar8/31/2010 8:36:37 PM You should be able to find a used generation one (with the glow stick tube), the tritium is brighter and the cost will be less. I have one and like it, better than anEotechor an aimpoint (in my opinion) and i’ve used both.

Also SureFire has 200 lumen lights like the LX2 LumaMax , E2D LED Defender or the C3 Centurion / P9 if you like incandesent. They also can be bought on e-bay for a lot cheaper than what dealers charge. Also you can buy a drop in for the G2 like a Malkoff and get 235 lumens . Malkoff drop in Primary Arms also makes a drop in that would work in the G2. FALbert 12/12/2009 5:53:08 AM I have an Olight M21 I keep in the car. And an M30 incoming. Its a nice light for the money and general purpose use and believe these also use the same mount the M20 does. Personally, I don’t care to bolt on lights to guns unless they have QD mounts. Given the amount of light these put out and their price point, I am tempted.

Gablackgus 6/22/2011 12:15:10 Guys- Check out www.BROWE -inc.com that will give you the low-down. The big deal on this optic is uses a micro-processor to actually measure the light at the target- not where your standing. This means your reticle will automatically adjust itself as you move from target to target adjusting for each lighting scenario. This eliminates the problems with other optics that use ambient light. Your reticle wont disappear in with a bright target, and wont overpower with a low light target. The housing is also titanium rather than aluminum, and it only comes with an a.r.m.s. lever mount. You can also program the optic to your personal preferences on how bright or dim you want your reticle. Hope that helps! 1811guy 6/22/2011 12:22:54 Originally Posted By Gablackgus: Guys-

There really isn’t a bad SKS Rifle Stocks unless dome dumb hick dragged it through the TAPCO catalog. They are fun guns to shoot. Every gun owner should have one.

$295 is pretty fair in today’s market for a norinco. You can find them for slightly less, but it will take lots of time and persistence to save $30-$50.
